Make Up: End of Summer 2020 Sephora Make Up Haul Including Benefit, Super Goop, and Much More!

Have you ever had a spark of creativity that makes you want to try something new? Well that spark lit my ass up and inspired me to try out some new make up. It’s been months that I’ve been going through my makeup bag and feeling uninspired, so it was time that I found new products that worked with my new mommy lifestyle. Now a days, I have very little time for myself -let’s keep it real I barely have time to shower much less get ready with a full face of make up. I don’t have the time or energy to apply 20 different products or do touch ups through out the day, so the products I need have to be baby proof, meaning quick and effortless.

Eyes/ Eyebrows

I had seen many popular influencers on Instagram promoting the new Benefit Micro Filling Pen and they all raved about it being amazing. Because of all the hype I wanted to give it a try and had high hopes that it would be great. However, I quickly realized after trying it out that it was going to be a big “That’s a no for me, dawg” *Randy Jackson Voice*. The pen was very disappointing, it lacked in so many ways for me and my eyebrow type. Now, keep in mind that I have thin sparse eyebrows, which I will say may be one of the main reasons the Micro Filling Pen didn’t work for me. The tip of the pen has three individual points that are supposed to give the appearance of hair like stroke when applied, however all it did for me was bleed into each other making my eyebrows look like blocks instead of giving a natural defined finish. I believe this would work best for those who have thicker fuller eyebrows looking to touch them up and fill in , but definitely not for those that need to build a full shape.

Since I wasn’t sure about the Benefit Micro Filling Pen I had also ordered my tried and true favorites, the Benefit Precisely My Brow and Gimme Brow. Like I mentioned above, I have thin sparse eyebrows, so if I don’t fill in my brows I have no expression lol. The precisely my brow is perfect for shaping and defining my eyebrows without any harsh lines. The Gimme Brow adds volume to my thin hairs and keeps them in place. This combination, Precisely my brows and Gimme Brows, has never failed me and is my standard for any brow product I try.

Last but not least, I ordered the Lily Lashes Eye Lash Curler. I had been looking for my eyelash curler for weeks and couldn’t find it! So, I figured it was time to give up the search and ordered a new one since I was going to buy new make up anyways. But life is funny, literally an hour after I placed my order for my makeup and the new eye lash curler. . . I found my old eye lash curler I was looking for! Ain’t that some shit lol. Even though I found my old eyelash curler I gave the Lily Lashes Curler a try. For a $16 eyelash curler I was expecting it to some how give me the look of falsies, but it literally was just as good as my old one, so I returned it.

Skin

I gave birth to Salome on March 5th, which was a couple weeks before California shut down due the pandemic, so I have been wearing little to no make up for months now. At first, I wasn’t wearing makeup because I was deep in the newborn phase and honestly didn’t have the energy or need to wear any. After a couple months, I wasn’t wearing make up particularly foundation because I was deep in quarantine and didn’t need to wear any to be in the house all day. Until recently, as I slowly reentered civilization have I began to use foundation again. However, I didn’t want to go back to the foundation I was using before, which I have always worn full coverage foundation, if I could still see my freckles then it wasn’t the foundation for me. However, my lifestyle has changed drastically, I’m no longer taking business meeting but instead taking stroller walks around my neighborhood and changing dirty diapers, so my foundation needed to change as well.

I knew I need a foundation that was light weight but still had SOME coverage, or else whats the point of even putting anything on? I started looking up different products and the Super Goop CC Cream caught my attention. I have never been very good at using SPF, I know shame on me! However, I also never found a sunscreen that worked for me, it was always too thick, too greasy and too white! However, I’ve heard really amazing things about super goop and figured now is the time to test it out- it’s the summer, I’m outside more than ever and it promises light weight coverage. To my surprise, I REALLY REALLY liked this CC cream. It wasn’t heavy and still had amazing coverage – I would say it’s light to medium coverage. The texture was great, it wasn’t greasy at all and has a beautiful semi matte natural finish. My only complaint is the color range, there are only 4 shades and they only apply to light skin tones. I unfortunately returned the CC Cream because I got the “Light to Medium” color, which has a red undertone but also was too dark for me, so I will be repurchasing in the shade “Light”.

If I was changing up my foundation then I figured I need to replace my setting spray as well, foundation and setting spray are like coffee and creamer they gotta mix just right. I was using the NYX Setting Spray in Matte and it was great, definitely recommend, however that was when I was using a full coverage foundation as well when my skin was oily. I scrolled through Sephora and landed on IT Cosmetics, a brand that I never really ventured into. The name itself “Your Skin But Better” was literally what I was looking for to go with my light weight CC Cream and the name says it all! This setting spray is great except for one thing, the spray nozzle. The product is amazing with a natural finish and great longevity, however you have to look past the if-y spray nozzle. The spray nozzle is uneven and practically spits out the product, which made me use more product then I normally would have to make sure I had an even layer all over my face.

The Dr Brandt Luminizer Primer is the one product I have yet to try out! I have a few other primers in my make up collection so I’m thinking of a writing a blog post comparing them all. Let me know in the comments below if you would like me to do it.

Lips

I’ve never been a big lipstick girl, I prefer lip gloss or a good lip balm. I’ve been using the Fenty Glass Bomb Lip Gloss and absolutely love them, however I discovered and decided to try out the Sephora Collection Clean Glossy Lip Oil. I figured the Lip Oil would give me the best of both worlds with the hydration of a lip balm and the shine of a lip gloss, and that’s exactly what I got! The lip oil is super shiny but has no stickiness, which I hate about other lip glosses. One thing that I quickly learned while using this product is you can’t be too heavy handed, because it is oil based it will bleed and look messy if you apply too much. Thankfully you do not need alot to have a nice glossy lip.

For every day makeup I usually focus on two things, skin and eyes. For me, as long as I have my imperfections covered, eyebrows done, eyelashes and lips poppin’ I’m good to take on the day. Comment below what make up is a must have for your daily looks or recommend me a product!

Every Day Must Have Personal Care Products: Current Hit and Miss items

I like to think that I live a practical life, especially when it comes to my personal care. I enjoy products that aren’t over complicated and of course, are effective. I usually find myself sticking to the same basic products for my everyday care, but if I see a great review or someone recommends me a product I am always open to trying it out. So here’s a break down of what are my favorite must have products and what products I tried out and didn’t work for me.

Lens Cleaning Wipes
First Aid Beauty Hand Cream
Burt’s Bee Chapstick
Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel

I LITERALLY would be blind without my glasses, and I recently got a new pair of Ray Bays, which I absolutely LOVE! However, one of my pet peeves is dirty glasses so one of my must have products are my Lens Cleaning Wipes. I use these wipes at least twice a day, so for the price and quality these are definitely worth it, you’ll never go back to using cloth to wipe your glasses again. Cloth wipes usually leave streaks or cloudiness to your lens but when using Cleaning Wipes they won’t leave any smudges, as well are super convenient easily thrown into your purse. You’ll feel like your glasses are brand new again every day.

I don’t always understand my skin, I have oily/combination skin on my face and drier skin on my body especially during the “colder” months in the dry California weather. My hands are usually on the drier side, so I switched over to Ultra Repair Cream by First Aid Beauty because of a sample my sister gave me from her Ipsy Bag. This cream isn’t specifically a “hand cream” but I’ve found that it doesn’t leave a heavy greasy feeling and absorbs pretty quickly, everything I need in a good hand cream. So for now, its a hit and I’ll be purchasing the full size version soon to try it out on the rest of my body and see how it works out. Until then I found my new favorite hand cream!

There isn’t much to say regarding my next must have item, my Burt’s Bee Chap stick. I CAN NOT live without a good chap stick, like I mentioned above my body constantly needs moisture so my lips get chapped very quickly. I keep a chap stick in my bedside table, in my purse and even in my car, so I am never caught slipping without one for when I need it. I feel so ugly when my lips are chapped and you have nothing to moisturize with, so you resort to licking your lips, which obviously only makes it worse so then you look like LL Cool J licking your lips every few minutes… I just hate it. The Burt’s Bee Chap sticks are very moisturizing, non greasy, and have great scents/flavors. My two favorites are the natural original or the cucumber mint.

Misses: Never again, PERIODT.

I was using the Benefit Give Me Brow for quite some time and was very happy with it, especially for my everyday minimal makeup. I have thin patchy eyebrows, so the Give Me Brow helped build up and tame my thin long eyebrow hairs. However, I ran out and decided to give something else a try, that’s where the Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel came into play. At first, I wasn’t very impressed but enjoyed the dimension it gave my brows since it has a nice color, but it lacked what I really needed, control. I need my eyebrow product to keep my eyebrows in place, Periodt, isn’t that the whole point? Well, this product just wasn’t it. I only vaguely enjoyed it when I would paint on my brows, again because of the pretty highlight color it would give. Over all I will not be repurchasing it and will either go back to my Benefit Give Me Brow or try something else.

I’ll keep looking for the best products without breaking the bank and report back to you guys, but please do the same. Let me know what products you think I would enjoy, have a great weekend!
